Know Your Kiwi berries...They are Not All Created Equal |
Today's conscientious consumer
is concerned about where, and how their food is grown, who grew it, and if they have the loyalty, commitment, and dedication to put
out only their best.
Important qualities we expect
are great flavor and consistency.
We learn to trust that
producer, and look for their labels because we know they will provide us with a
good product.
We grow kiwiberries because it’s our passion, and
we grow them
organically so they are safe for you to eat. They have high Brix (sugar levels)
which produces superior nutrient content, and optimum flavors. We provide
you with quality....not quantity.

Organically grown vs.
conventionally grown produce is an issue of concern for consumers, and
also an economical challenge to provide healthy, safe foods for you and your
family without sacrificing your budget.
A number of studies have linked
pesticides to health issues including cancer, brain and nervous system toxicity,
and skin irritation. The following resource links may assist you
with your organic food considerations, and also highlight the difference that
organic growing methods have on our food chain, and the environment.
The general rule of
thumb is to spend your organic budget on items that have consumable, thin skins that
can be permeated by organophosphates. Kiwiberries fall into
this category.
Our organic kiwi berries aren't
just good for you...they safe and delicious! Their smooth skin makes them
perfect to pop in your mouth for a nutritious snack.
A few KiwiBerrie facts that you should be aware of...
Growing Methods:
Most kiwiberries are
grown by conventional methods, with synthetic fertilizers, and cancer
causing sprays. |
|
- Ours are grown organically
and only receive organic,
USDA NOP approved fertilizers. |
|
Most fruit is grown on
all-overhead pergola trellis systems, and never receives sunshine. |
|
- Our fruit is grown on our modified T-bar trellis, and receives
plenty of sunshine which produces a more flavorful, nutritious berrie. |
|
Some fruit is
picked early, and gassed with ethylene to promote fruit ripening. |
|
- We hand-pick our berries at
the peak of maturity allowing them to assimilate the natural sugars from
the vine. The
fruit continues to ripen after harvest, and reaches sugar levels
(Brix)
of 20 degrees or higher. We do not use ethylene gas to promote the ripening of our fruit.

Kiwiberries are packaged and labeled differently:
Others have adopted our original name “KiwiBerries” and
market up to four (4) different varieties of fruit, in one container, under the
Kiwiberries/Kiwiberry label. |
|
- Our packaging bears our “KiwiBerry Organics” label, and
includes the variety branded name - Passion Poppers or Aloha Annas - so
you have the opportunity to choose what you prefer. |
|
Mixing different varieties in the same
package can be a problem. Each variety has its own maturation schedule, so they won't
all be ripe at the same time. |
|
- Each of our varieties are harvested and packed
so the fruit matures
uniformly providing you with a consistent product. |
|
Almost all kiwiberries are sold in 4.4 ounce containers today. Have you noticed what price you are paying for less weight? |
|
- Our 6.0 ounce clamshells
are always packed to the brim. You are getting more fruit, and are
actually paying less for our "organic" kiwiberries. |
